Happy New Year, readers. I hope your resolutions have been made and that you have some good plans for what you hope to achieve.

Coming up this year:

Parliamentary elections in Brazil, Hungary, Sweden, Italy, Luxembourg, Moldova and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Canadian provincial elections in New Brunswick, Ontario, and Quebec.

Australian state elections in South Australia, Tasmania, and Victoria, the last one of which will be particularly exciting.

Several state elections in Austria, and Bavaria's Landtag election.

United Kingdom local elections, including all the Greater London Boroughs.

And possibly a snap general election in the United Kingdom-the current government is none too stable at present.

On tomorrow's upcoming anti-ATOS demo

Ladies and gentlemen, I call on you all tomorrow, if you can make it, to come to your nearest demonstration against ATOS, the company responsible for wrongly declaring thousands of people with disabilities 'fit to work' and thus responsible for thousands of deaths since January 2011 (estimates are >20,000 ATOS-attributed deaths at this time of writing), in protest of its grievous crimes against people with disabilities and mental health problems. I particularly hope that as many of my fellow Greens as possible can turn out , because the Green Party has rightly condemned ATOS' cruel, flawed and inconsiderate assessments from the start. The British general election of 2024, part 2-the Liberal Democrats, the Greens and Reform UK

Arguably at the British general election of 2024, just as big a winner as the Labour Party were the smaller parties, especially the Liberal Democrats, the Green Party, and Reform UK, the successor to the Brexit Party. Between them these 3 parties alone won as many as 81 seats and 32.6% of the vote, almost equal to Labour's vote share and 8.7% more than the outgoing Conservative government polled. Had some form of proportional representation existed for UK parliamentary elections, they would have won more than 200 seats between them (assuming election by regions using the Additional Member System with a 5% threshold by region, which is what the Scottish Parliament and Senedd have used since their inception although the Senedd will switch to a different PR system from 2026).
